Want to Stay Warm on a Budget? It’s Possible With These Tips!

Fact: Staying warm in the dead of winter can be quite costly. Granted, you could just turn the thermostat up a few notches — but that will only continue to increase your energy bill. Of course, if you’re trying to avoid the cold altogether you could move, but that would also be rather costly. Solution? Investing in a way to stay warm for less. Don’t believe us? Here’s how to do it with ease:

Use Layers

One of the best ways to stay toasty all winter long is to layer your clothing. Sure, this might seem like the most straightforward solution, but you’d be surprised at how many people avoid it altogether. If you’re not sure where to start on this fashion-forward trend, then it’s simple: start with a hat and work your way down.

A hat will be the perfect way to keep your head warm, which is (you guessed it) the part of your body that regulates your body temperature. Of course, the next step is to wear a t-shirt, followed by a sweater or over-shirt. Finally, you’ll want to layer your pants (if you need extra warmth), in addition to thick, wool/cotton socks. Once you’re layered like a seven-layer cake at the local bakery, you’ll be ready to take on the cold!

Stay Active

Whether you join your local gym or do laps around your home, staying active is the best way to produce some heat in your body this winter. Think of it like this: when you’re running around in the summertime, your body begins to warm up thanks to the sun and heat — but the same concept applies in the wintertime, minus those toasty, natural essentials.

If you’re looking for a great way to heat up (and stay in shape), then taking a simple run/walk on the treadmill will work wonders with producing body heat. In addition to these staple exercises, you can also practice some yoga or even do some floor exercises such as crunches. In no time, you’ll feel warm and your metabolism burning (not literally, of course).

Open Blinds

Have some windows facing the direction of the sun in the morning? If that’s the case, then you might want to fully open the blinds. The reason being is this: the sun uses your home’s windows the same way it utilizes a plant’s greenhouse; the rays will seep through, heating up an entire room within minutes.

Indeed, this is definitely one of the best, inexpensive ways to bring some warmth to a cold room — but we definitely recommend doing this in moderation, since it’s possible that it could do some damage in your home. To further elaborate, if the sun’s rays hit a specific piece of flooring or furniture on a daily basis, for a few weeks, then the beams have the potential to cause some noticeable fading.

Drink Coffee/Tea

Feel the need to quench your thirst? If that’s the case, then drinking a warm beverage will be the answer. From coffee to tea and everything in between, this will heat your body from the inside out, causing you to feel a sense of warmth (and comfort) when you need it most. Of course, if you’re not a fan of either of these beverages, then hot chocolate or soup can also do the trick.

Now, if you happen to be outdoors for an extended period of time (i.e., shoveling your property), then we highly recommend bringing a thermos that will keep that beverage warm for your consumption. Within minutes, you’ll feel comfortable and cozy within no time!

While these are only a few of the many ways to keep warm, it’s essential that you still utilize your home’s heating unit to its fullest potential. This will not only prevent your plumbing pipes from freezing, but it will also keep your home nice and toasty. Feel that your unit has seen better days?
