Personal hero and why: Artemisia Gentileschi
Artemisia was an Italian Baroque artist and is now considered one of the most accomplished painters of her generation, though it was a time where female artists were not openly accepted by the artistic community. She was the first woman to become a member of the Accademia delle Arte del Disegno in Florence. Her paintings bravely portrayed strong and suffering women from myth, legend, the Bible and her own experience.
